Maria Basel crafts a sonic universe where the piano serves as the unwavering foundation, upon which she layers electronic textures, subtle beats, and her own multi-layered vocals. Her sound lives in the contrast between fragile, melancholic tones and driving, rhythmic undercurrents, a balance that invites listeners into introspection while staying irresistibly present.
Since her acclaimed debut album “Bloom” (2023), which received enthusiastic responses from both critics and audiences, Maria Basel has become a notable voice in the German indie and electro scene. She has been a guest on TV Noir several times and has performed at the Reeperbahn Festival, Haldern Pop, and many other festivals in Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Romania.
Born in Ukraine to a pianist and a cellist, Basel combines her classical background with a passion for electronic sounds, jazz, and R’n’B. This versatility shapes both her songwriting and her collaborations – including work with Enno Bunger, Alin Coen, Jupiter Jones or the Pina Bausch Ensemble. Her music has been recognized with numerous awards and grants, among them the Von der Heydt Förderpreis, the Pop Stipendium and a nomination for the popNRW Newcomer and Outstanding Artist Award. Currently she is working on her upcoming EP „The Longing“ which is to be released in November 2025.
